Hi folks.
Update on support/service so far
Neurologist/ local clinics.
The island is now very lucky to have access to a visiting neurology service and this has been a tremendous boost for the service. The availability of this service will greatly improve the support for all patients locally. The service will work in conjunction with our existing MS clinics with Dr Turner.
Botox
As mentioned before Botillium toxin (Botox) therapy is now available and we have has some really positive results.
Wheelchair service
We are delighted to inform you that we now have an occupational therapist looking into the feasibility of setting up a local wheelchair service and are currently researching all aspects of this service. We will keep you updated!
Support network
The support for local patients continues to improve. We are delighted to announce that a sitting service has now been developed through the community and respite service. The idea of the service is to provide support to carers by allowing some one who is appropriately trained to sit in with a patient while carer goes out for shopping, hair do, or just to go out with friends. The service can offer week day sessions up to 2 hours per session and also nights and weekend options can be explored. If you are interested in this, please contact me for further details.
Regular coffee afternoons aimed at the mainly secondary progressive element of the condition has now been set up with really positive outcomes and continues to be well supported. Dates for this can be found on the events section of the website.
A recent carers information day at the Cotils created tremendous interest and based on this further carer days will be arranged. These days out allow carers to enjoy a pamper day but with the added reassurance that their loved one is being looked after. The Cotils will arrange sitter etc
Exercise
A wheelchair exercise class has been set-up with Susi and again the early feedback is really positive and we are hoping to expand on this in the future.
